many years ago I inherited my great grandfathers WW1 medals. His name was Alfred Ernest ARTHUR. Over the years I have done some research and know his regimental number was 2315 and he enlisted in Kalgoorlie early in 1916 (at the age of 47 years) and embarked on May 15 1916 as part of the 10th Lighthorse 16th reinforcements (16/10L.H.).
The medals include a D.C.M. which is engraved 2315 T.C.Q.M. Sgt A.E. ARTHUR 10th/Aust L.H.R.
The other two medals I am told are campaign or service medals but they are both inscribed with 2315 ER/C.Q.M.S: A.E. ARTHUR: CML. CPS. A.I.F.
Can anyone advise me why the DCM shows him with the 10th L.H. and the others seemingly with the Camel Corps?
Thanks for any help.

A.E Arthur is shown as enlisting 8-12-16 at age 44 a Miner from Kamballie WA.
He embarked with the 16R/10 LHR and on arrival in Egypt was placed in the 3 LHTR 17-6-16.
He tranfered to the 3rd Anzac Bn 11th Company Cml Cps 1-7-16.
In December 1916 he was one of a number of men who tranfered to the Camel Transport Corps. He was prom T/Cpl or ER/Cpl "P" Comany CTC under Capt H Suter ASC. He was prom T/Sgt 15-6-17 and T/CQMS 1-8-17.
He moved to "M" Company 1-9-17 and prom T/CQMS 17-10-17 again.
He was awarded the DCM on the 16-7-18 at the Wadi Augala when a detachment of Camels came under fire. He saved most of them and the native handlers. He is shown as belonging to "E" company but I can find no record of his movement to that company?
Most men in the Camel Corps are refered to in the records by there original units even after over two years like your Grand dad.
If you need any info on the CTC let me know.
Can you send a photo of him by EMail?

thanks for the information, you must have it all at your fingertips to have replied so quickly.
I have several studio type photos, one pre-embarkation and the other later as he has Sergeants stripes. I will have them scanned so I can email them.
I did try your email but it doesn't seem to work, can you check it is correct.

Thr reprinted unit history 'Westralian Cavalry at War' by Olden has been available since 2001. Only 350 copies left. Arthur is mentioned several times. Contact me for a copy and details if you don't already have one. Regards
