Major J. F. Thomas Riding Troop Inc.


   This Troop consists of two re enactment Troops , 1 Troop is drawn from the Tabulam,Tenterfield and fairfield areas and 2 troop is drawn from the Cullendore and Acacia Creek Area of New South Wales. The Tenterfield Light Horse Troop is a descendant of the Tenterfield Detachment of the Upper Clarence Light Horse formed on the 1-10-1885.
   The old timers were excellent horsemen and won quite a few competitions. They won the Hutton Shield in 1893 and 1895 under command of Lt.J.F.Thomas. In the first six competitions for the Prince of Wales Cup Tenterfield won it four times:
1910    Under Capt M. Reid
1912    Under Lt M.F.Bruxner
1929    Under Lt Purvis - Smith
1930    Under Lt Purvis - Smith

Major J. F Thomas Troop is equipped and uniformed in the World War I  period.
