The 11th Light Horse Regiment - Roma Troop.

The Roma Troop was formed in September 2000, in honour of the late Shorty Murden who was a member of the 11th Light Horse prior to the outbreak of World War II.

In the early days two riding members attended sporting activities at Murrurundi, Toowoomba and Tenterfield and Anzac and Rememberance Day parades and services in Roma. After the Anzac Day parade and service in 2002 increased awareness in the Light Horse resulted in fund raising efforts assisting with the costs of our first local display in August.

At the invitation of the Town Council, a section of troopers from the Australian Light Horse Association demonstrated the skills and tradition of the Light Horse during the Harry Redford Trial Re-enactment festivities in Roma. As a result of this display, the troop membership increased and currently there are fourteen riding members and twelve supportive members.

Training days are held from 9am on the first Sunday of the month at the Roma Show Grounds and meetings are the first Monday of the month, 7pm at the Roma RSL.

New members are most welcome and more information may be obtained by contacting the President; Gary Schefe on 07 4622 5918 or the Secretary; Yvonne Zumpe on 07 4622 2823.
