A Troop was formed in 1978 to help preserve an important part of our military heritage. Since then it has been providing pageantry and realism at heritage, historical, cultural and other varied activities throughout the Sydney basin and beyond. The troop depicts the light horse of World War One and is as accurately presented, trained and equipped as is possible in the modern day. Our activities consist of both active and static displays, mounted and dismounted. We are also available for talks or lectures to both adult and younger audiences. Using a mobile museum for these functions offers people an excellent opportunity to see genuine equipment as used by our mounted soldiers. We are trained for street parades and official escorts (A Troop had for honour of escorting the funeral courtage of the late Mick Hollingsworth, the last WW1 Light Horseman in NSW). A Troop is available to enhance street parades or attend relevant individual and community activities. Our active displays are varied and can include casualty evacuation, deploying a Hotchkiss light machine gun for action (Currently the only such display in Australia ) and the deployment of a section of light horsemen. Through painstaking research the troop has managed to collect or replicate various types of pack saddlery and equipment to employ in these displays. Skill at arms can be demonstrated with sword, bayonet, lance and rifle with fixed bayonet. Skill at arms disciplines include rings, Turks heads, dummies (Both kneeling and mounted heights) and tent pegging. Recruits, both male and female over the age of sixteen, are being sought. All levels of riders are welcome, as are non riders who can obtain much satisfaction and knowledge by assisting at troop displays. Training is carried out one day each month under a nationally accredited riding instructor, who is also a trained cavalry (Horsed) instructor and avid historian/collector of light horse equipment. Training days (Usually Saturdays) are held on a property near Richmond . Participating in the troop is a team effort and a commitment from which you will gain much enjoyment and knowledge of the life and skills of a mounted soldier of World War One.
