The Lockyer Troop was formed in January 2005 with six members, consisting of four Active riding members and two support members. Members of the Troop come from various backgrounds and parts of the Lockyer, several of our key members are either retired or currently serving members of Australia 's Armed Forces. Half of our membership have been involved in other Light Horse Troops and for various reasons have joined a centralised Lockyer Troop. AIMS and OBJECTIVES. To foster a continued interest in Australia's military history, especially the Light Horse's achievements and traditions, within the people, and especially the youth of the Lockyer Valley. To reach a high standard in the horsemanship and Skill at Arms of the Australian Light Horse, and create personal pride in wearing the uniform of the Light Horse by involvement in community events and training activities. To promote awareness and pride in the great personal sacrifices made on the battlefield by our forefathers. And the sacrifices, which enable us to enjoy the freedom, we have today. To ensure the continued existence of Australia 's unique military history by the acquisition and preservation of the uniforms weapons and equipment used by the 2 nd Light Horse Regiment. To preserve for future generations the memorabilia, photographs, records and documents of those from the Lockyer Valley who served in Australian Light Horse units. To train for, and participate in, competitions with other Light Horse Troops on traditional Inter-troop contests and re-enactment rides. To take part in Public Displays, Street Parades and other ceremonial activities, which the Troop may from time to time, be called upon to provide. To maintain close links with units in the Australian Army Order of Battle having a Light Horse lineage. To carry out all tasks pertinent to our Aims and Objectives. OUR FIRST ANZAC DAY 2005
Our first parade was ANZAC Day 2005, we were inexperienced and made do with what we had, since then we have made many changes, such as horse colour and uniform and equipment, these changes have come slowly of course as the cost of equipment is high. Since that first parade we have made many changes and are consequently more accurate in uniform and equipment and hope to improve further with time.
We were honoured to provide the Cenotaph party at the Ma Ma Creek Remembrance Day ceremony November 2005
