Sad news of the passing of Mascot Blake on Sunday following complications with a broken hip. She was 82. I hope that Jon will be cared for in her absence.

| G'Day ALH Trooper: Sad news indeed! Mascot Blake had become THE mother of all time just about! One can only hope all the many people concerned with Jon's situation & who now know the full story, or enough of it, to be truly supportive at this time, will rally round. Perhaps many may want to send money, however small an amount, to any set-up which may ensue to boost the remaining financial grant that Mascot was operating from? It sounded as though this was not enough to keep him safe for the future, so much had been whittled away by lawyers & a crooked govt official in the past. Let's hope now some such idea comes to fruition quickly. Jon Blake, star of "The Lighthorsemen", remains an on-going cause of great importance to not only Australians, but so many other of us overseas, who cherish what he accomplished while he was still able. Sincerely, Grant. |

For Dear John Paul
CORNERS
Though you clear the corners of your mind, some memories seem to stay, Like the dappled shadows that can’t be caught, but with your emotions play.
There will always be times when your heart will pull, when the hurt will not go away. It is then that you must remember, she was yours, but for only a day.
With her laughter, her way of walking, or the funny things she might say, and her smile made a new day’s dawning seem nothing out of the way.
Now she’s gone - and you can’t reach to touch her… Will the pain go away someday? Yet you know, that deep in your memories garden, your love will forever stay.
For she is the one who always cared, from her hair being golden to grey, and memories of your Mother’s love, time will not fade away.
Please keep the faith within you, strong, may God his love impart, and send you warm and faithful friends, to ease your troubled heart.

| Further to both Joye & ALH Trooper, G'd Day: The finest website all about Jon has to be Karina's <www.bajaclub.homestead.com/jonblake.html> Apart from all the news clippings she carefully amassed, & the photos too, there are interesting comments from other friends & those who believed in Jon. A rich source. Grant. |

| It is with tears in my eyes that I would like to let all those who still care know, that a full report of Mascot's funeral appeared in the Sydney newspaper - "Daily Telegraph"- this morning,22 May, 2007 - with pictures of Jon who was at the funeral. His only child, Dustin,28, who calls his father by his first name Paul, said he would take over his father's care from his remarkable grandmother - reports the paper. The newspaper reported further, that Dustin - a quietly spoken 28-year-old - said he knew his father who is almost totally paralysed ... was "very upset". Dustin vowed to become Jon's carer and protector following the death of Mascot Blake who had spent 21 years by her disabled son's side. Mascot will always be remembered for how she inspired many of us to keep on fighting for justice in our own troubles. May she rest in peace. |

Hello Dustin,
I just got home and a kind person on this forum had emailed me to say that you had posted. Thank you for taking the time to reply at this very sad time for you. I have a son your age and I know how overwhelming it must seem to you right now. As I am writing this, a poem is coming, so I hope you don’t mind my dedicating it to you.
ONE DAY AT A TIME For Dustin Blake – a very courageous young man.
One day at a time son, that’s all that it takes. Although at this moment, Your young heart breaks.
Who knows what tomorrow May bring to your door, No need to borrow, another day more.
Medical science, Is finding each day, solutions to problems, so don’t give up, hey.
And when your dad, son, Seems lost, or despairs, Tell him, God tries those, about whom he cares.
Remember the Lighthorse, (he gave us his best) and how those brave men, son, were put to the test.
Fill life with love, son, Fill it with joy, Music and laughter - Life’s troubles destroy.
Then, your Grandmother’s wishes You will fulfill You’ll do them proud, son I know you will.
Love and God Bless, Joye

Dear Dustin I read in yesterdays paper about your Nan passing away and I wanted to let you know I am thinking of you and your family. You are incredibly brave taking on the responsibility of your dad's care and I am sure your Nan is so proud of you. It really didn't seem all that long ago we were walking home from highschool together, now we are all grown up with responsibilities. I moved away from the Coast a long time ago but if you ever need to chat, or vent your frustrations please send me an email brettandkristie@bigpond.com. I hope your heart heals soon Kristie |

You are too kind joye. Thank you so much for another lovely poem but I don't consider myself too courageous I am just doing what needs to be done. My father needs me so I will be there for him and do all I can for him. It is not going too smoothly but it is heading in the right direction. I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to write as my my father and I appreciate it so very much.

Hi Dustin,
I was so sorry to hear of your grandmother's death. She was such a lovely lady - incredibly strong and courageous, and very sweet and funny as well. I was one of the volunteers who used to help with your dad's patterning and I have very fond memories of time spent with Mascot and Paul. I even remember one day when you were visiting - Mascot made a couple of us volunteers take you swimming in the pool(you were only about 8 years old!)
I wish you and your dad all the best and hope that whatever problems you're having at the moment settle down soon. There are a lot of people out there who still think of Paul and care about him, and I'm sure their prayers are with you both.

Hi Dustin,
I was so sorry to hear about Mascot's passing.
I was also one of many volunteers who had the opportunity to assist Mascot with your dad's physical therapy in 1988 and 1989. I was very fond of Mascot....she was a truly remarkable woman. It's very comforting to know you will be looking after Paul, but I truly hope you have sufficient help in this regard so that you will not be overwhelmed by the responsibility.
My thoughts are with you and Paul.
Take care, ...Agi |

I only heard about the sad news of your wonderful Grandmother yesterday. You and Jon (Paul) have my deepest sympathy for your loss, and my heartfelt wishes for a bright future for you both. I'm off to the Scottish Isles for a week of meditation; I will send both you and Jon as much healing, love and light as I can muster. Both of you stay positive and happy, in love and light, Caroline W. |

Dear Dustin,
I hesitate to send this email, but hope that you understand my intentions.
My name is Colin Chick. I was a Mormon Missionary working in Sydney in 1988-1989. This included various acts of community service, including a weekly visit for a number of months to your Dad, and your Grandmother, to assist with Paul's physiotherapy sessions.
I still remember well your father's character, and not knowing whether he would be in a good mood or bad, stubborn or cooperative, cheeky or bored on any given day! He certainly loved to keep us on our toes!
During all this (in our presence, at least), Mascot was always in control, a tower of strength; even more strong-willed than Paul, which I guess she needed to be! How she kept it up was always an inspiration to me- I thought being rejected on the doorsteps of Sydney day in, day out was discouraging! I didn't know the meaning of the word!
I was but another face that appeared and disappeared, like hundreds of others, from your father's and grandmother's lives. I probably made no difference in theirs, but they certainly changed my life.
I hope this doesn't re-open old wounds, but I only recently heard of Mascot's passing and felt I needed to pass on these thoughts to you and Paul.
You will both be in my prayers,
Kindest Regards,
Colin Chick |

Good afternoon Dustin there's nothing any of us can say or write that can change your loss and sadness.
But I'm full of admiration for your Grandmother and now your own commitment to your Father.
Well done young man, for your generosity of spirit and quiet strength.
