The 10th Light Horse Bridle Trail
The 10th Light Horse Bridle Trail was opened on October 15, 1989. It was
developed to honour the memory of the 10th Australian Light Horse Regiment.
It was the only Australian Imperial Force (AIF) Light Horse Regiment recruited in Western Australia during the First World War it is one of Australia’s oldest and best-known Light
Horse Regiments. It can trace its origins to 7th June 1900 as the Western
Australian Mounted Infantry (WAMI)
Length of whole trail – approx. 56kms one way. Two days at a leisurely pace.
The trail has a mainly flat lime stone surface with sandy firebreaks and no significant hills.
Sections 2, 3 and 4 have some short bitumen sections with easy access next to the road and minimal traffic.
Section 1 : Island Point to Old Bunbury Road 11.5km one way.
Section 2 : Old Bunbury Road to Johnston Road 14.5km one way
Section 3 : Johnston Road to Forestry Road 21km one way
Section 4 : Forestry Road to Wellesley Road 10kms one way Ride considerately
Be courteous and respectful of other trail users.
Follow directional markers and keep to the trail.
Do not allow horses to enter natural watercourses.
Overnight stays with horses prohibited.
Be cool: During hot weather avoid heat stress. Wear sun protection, sunscreen, long sleeves and a hat. Carry and drink 3 to 4 litres per person per day, however individual needs may vary depending upon weather conditions. Sip small amounts regularly.
Be clean: Please take your rubbish with you.
Be safe: Wear approved safety helmet.
Plan your ride. Tell a trusted friend where you are going.
Check for fire bans and current road closures. In the case of a fire stay on the trail and move away from the fire to the nearest safe exit point
